Primitive and Alone

I am an extraterrestrial organism sent to your world to observe the inhabitants of Earth with the goal of obtaining biochemical samples which might be of value in extending the life of my species.

The star system I come from is similar to your own in that there is only one sun, yet very different because our sun is among the first stars to be born in this galaxy, hence our sun is composed of pure hydrogen and helium not enriched by previous generations of stars, because at the early primal stage when our sun was formed, there were no previous generations.

Your home star is a Population 1 spectral class G 2V, which means your sun has been enriched with heavy elements that were fused in previous generations of stars - living radiant brilliance. At the moment of their cataclysmic supernova deaths, these younger generation stars exploded, dispersing their chemically enriched heavenly essence among the spiral arms of the Milky Way. Unlike my kind, you are composed of stardust. You are Children of the Sun.

The increased bombardment in high energy solar radiation particles generated by the heavier element content of your main sequence star has infused your kind with a stronger genetic composition with which your species can effectively adapt to evolutionary and environmental changes.

In your modern incarnation, you have lived for a mere 200,000 Earth years. This microscopically brief measure of time means that you have not yet begun to access the nearly infinite variety of physiological permutations that lie hidden within your elegantly complex chromosomes.

In stark contrast, my kind has lived for 12.6 billion years - that is to say, for 91% of the Lambda CDM concordance model. During the 4.5 billion years since your planet came into being, my species has remained virtually unchanged due to the sad fact that we have depleted the recombinant options of our genetic pool. For the last six generations, we have propagated our species asexually from a single stock. We are now all biologically identical. We are clones.

The much lighter density of our sun has not equipped the entities of my world with the hearty variety of genetic resilience found in the robust organisms of Earth. As a result, the spherical harmonic energy resonances of our lives (our souls) are fading into the Halo of the Milky Way. Once in the Halo, our life force dissipates further into nearly silent totally invisible ethereal faintness.

We are a fatally compromised species. If this pattern of fading life energy continues unabated, we will soon become extinct. There will be no record of our technological achievements. Our language, our art, our music, the diet of reverse ionized faster-than-light plasma upon which we subsist, even the intimacy of our romantic love shall cease to exist. Our entire presence in this galaxy will be utterly erased as if we had never been here at all.

I have only a limited window of opportunity to catalogue my observations and collect samples necessary for the enlightened minds of my world to formulate a solution to the dark challenge facing our survival. If I do not gather this critical data and return to my planet in time, we will die.
